Details of Disappearance:

On March 2, 1996, Susan Klungness was found murdered in her family’s mobile home in Bonney Lake, Washington. She’d been hit in the head with a blunt object. Her son, Jeffrey, was also missing and has never been found.

Susan’s husband, Ron, came home to find the house unlocked, the TV on, and Susan’s body. Their gold watch and $700 were also gone. Ron last spoke to Jeffrey on the phone that morning. The couple had a difficult marriage, which worried Jeffrey. Jeffrey, while shy, was a normal teenager, but he had anger issues.

A handyman, Marty Malcolm, claimed he found Susan’s body. He took her car, was seen with Jeffrey earlier that day, and withdrew money from Susan’s account. He was arrested for stealing the money, served 45 days in jail, but has never been charged with Susan’s murder or Jeffrey’s disappearance. He refuses to cooperate with investigators. Malcolm has a prior conviction for murder.

Police believe whoever killed Susan also took Ron’s gold watch (a Seiko Quartz, serial number SGF 206, engraved with his name and Boeing service message). They suspect foul play in Jeffrey’s disappearance, but he’s not considered a suspect in his mother’s murder. Despite extensive searches, Jeffrey’s whereabouts remain unknown.
