Details of Disappearance:
On July 29, 1985, a man named Lackey visited his sister and brother-in-law in Roebuck, Alabama. He gave them letters and said he was going to kill himself. He showed them a backpack with guns and tools, and a drawing of a cave or mine. He then left.

The police were called, but they didn’t do anything. Lackey was never seen again.

His letters explained that he was unhappy. His wife had left him years earlier, and his ex-wife was murdered. He’d also been deeply affected by his time in the Vietnam War. He planned to go into the woods, dig a grave, and bury himself.

His truck was found abandoned nearby that night, but searches didn’t find him. Before disappearing, he’d sold his belongings and given the money to his mother. He had a history of short-term jobs, but didn’t have problems with drugs or alcohol.

Even though his body was never found, and his family hopes he’s still alive, investigators believe he’s dead.
