Details of Disappearance:
In May 1983, Geraldine Hoover disappeared while hiking the Appalachian Trail in Maine. She’d traveled from Texas, unprepared for the challenging hike. She didn’t know the area, had little hiking experience, almost no money, and very little supplies. Park rangers wouldn’t let her climb Mount Katahdin because she was so ill-equipped.

The last time anyone saw her was at the start of the “100-Mile Wilderness,” a very remote and difficult section of the trail. She only had a small amount of beef jerky with her, not nearly enough food for such a long, tough stretch. The weather was bad – hot days and freezing nights with rain. She could have gotten dangerously cold (hypothermia).

Her sister reported her missing two months later. A big search found nothing, and no one else remembers seeing her. To this day, no one knows what happened to her.
