- Jesse went missing from South River, New Jersey on January 20, 1998, and hasn’t been seen since. His mom, Christina Mitchell, who didn’t have legal custody, may have taken him. There’s a warrant out for Mitchell’s arrest (issued January 21, 2000). A picture of her is available.
Mitchell was 26 when Jesse disappeared. She’s white, 5’7″, 120 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. She might limp and might dye her hair. She might also use the names Tammy White or Christina Ryan.
Jesse’s dad, Ronnie Kaslov, is Romany (Gypsy). He and Mitchell were divorced under Romany law, and he had limited supervised visits with Jesse. Mitchell and her parents ran away with Jesse before a court could decide custody.
Ronnie says the police didn’t investigate properly because the family is Romany. Police say the Romany community’s close-knit nature and lack of official records (like birth certificates and bank accounts) made the search hard. Many Romany children leave school after 8th grade, and the community isn’t always included in official counts.
While Ronnie and Christina had a Romany wedding, they weren’t legally married, so Jesse’s fatherhood is also being questioned. Mitchell’s family says they haven’t seen her or Jesse.
Jesse and Mitchell are likely using fake names and may be in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. The case is still unsolved.
