Details of Disappearance:
On December 26, 1995, 13-year-old Jessica left her home in Union, Missouri, to visit a friend. She was supposed to call her mom at 5 pm. Jimmy Hopkins, a 23-year-old acquaintance, picked her up.

Hopkins, along with Mark Henderson (who drove his car), took Jessica to Indiana. Hopkins claimed Jessica was pregnant and they were going to get married in Niagara Falls. However, Jessica’s mother and best friend said she wasn’t pregnant or dating Hopkins.

The three checked into a motel in Indiana. Henderson later said he heard disturbing noises – like someone being thrown against a wall – coming from Hopkins and Jessica’s room. By morning, Jessica, Hopkins, and Henderson’s car were gone.

Hopkins pawned his grandmother’s ring in Tennessee. Henderson’s car was later found abandoned in California, where witnesses saw Hopkins with a girl who looked like Jessica. Hopkins returned to Missouri alone months later. He initially claimed he’d last seen Jessica in California with another man, but this was a lie. He later confessed to killing her to several people.

In 2008, Hopkins murdered his wife and then killed himself. He was never charged with Jessica’s disappearance, but police and her family believe he was responsible. Jessica’s case remains unsolved.
