- Details of Disappearance:
- On June 23, 2016, Esmeralda Rubio-Montejano disappeared in Wenatchee, Washington. She was last seen around 6:30 pm near South Wenatchee Avenue and Ferry Street. A witness claimed to see someone who looked like her getting into an older, dark-colored car with a Hispanic man, but later changed their story.
Esmeralda had two young sons. Her family says she had mental health issues and sometimes experienced homelessness, making her vulnerable. She was very close to her mother and regularly contacted her, so vanishing without a word was completely out of character. Police believe she couldn’t have survived long on her own.
The last time her mother spoke to her was June 20th. Esmeralda was at Catholic Family Services, and her counselor said she was acting unusually agitated (manic). Before disappearing, Esmeralda had strangely cut and partially shaved her head, shaving the letters “SIC” into her scalp. No one knows what those initials mean.
Her phone and food stamp card haven’t been used since her disappearance, but someone found her wallet and mailed it to her mother. Police are treating her case as a likely murder, but it remains unsolved.
