- John Handrahan vanished from his San Mateo, California home on December 1st, 2008. He missed a contractor appointment the next day for work being done on his house (he’d already paid). His neighbors reported him missing on December 3rd.
His tan 1989 Volkswagen van (license plate 4NVT603) was found abandoned in San Francisco on December 11th. His wallet was found separately in San Francisco, a city where he owned property and often visited.
Handrahan was a well-liked landlord with no known enemies. He lived with a young man he was mentoring, who helped police with their investigation. He was wealthy and had lived in the area for over 20 years, regularly talking to his sister.
Police haven’t found any evidence of foul play, but his sudden disappearance without warning and without his medication is very unusual and concerning. The case remains a mystery.
