- Dorey, a student from England studying in Richmond, Virginia, vanished on March 2, 2010. He was last seen leaving his dorm at 11:19 a.m. with his distinctive black mountain bike. His phone was turned off, and he left his passport behind, making it unlikely he left the country.
Three weeks later, police found his backpack, clothes, and shoes near the James River. A witness said they saw someone who looked like Dorey swimming in the river that day – it was rainy and snowy. The police searched the river, but found nothing. A body was later found, but it wasn’t Dorey.
Dorey’s parents believe he took his own life in the river because they learned he’d been suffering from depression, something he’d kept hidden from them. While his case is still open, they don’t expect his body to be found. The mystery of what happened to him remains unsolved.
