- Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian male. Brown hair, brown eyes. Martin has a metal plate inserted in the roof of his mouth inscribed with a U.S. Army identification number; he received the plate after breaking his jaw. He has a two-inch scar on his right knee, a vaccination scar on his upper right arm, a tattoo of a swastika on his left arm and a tattoo of a cross on his right arm. Martin’s nickname is Joey.
- Details of Disappearance:
- Martin disappeared from Newburgh, New York, sometime around January 1974. He was last seen near South William Street, after his brother dropped him off at a Dunkin’ Donuts to hitchhike. Nobody knows where he was going or who he was meeting.
Martin grew up in Newburgh, went to Catholic schools, but dropped out in 10th grade. He served in the US Army in Germany for two years, and had a girlfriend there. After the army, he lived with his mother and then his grandmother. He had a minor arrest for theft in 1972.
When he disappeared, his mother was in the hospital, and she thinks he might have left because of the stress. There’s been no activity on his Social Security number since 1972. His father wasn’t around after a divorce.
Some people guess he went back to Germany, but there’s not much evidence. His disappearance remains a mystery.
