- Details of Disappearance:
- In August 1933, a bright young man named Halpern vanished while hiking alone in Rocky Mountain National Park. He’d been camping with a friend, but went off on his own up Taylor Peak. He never came back.
A big snowstorm hit right after he disappeared, making a search very difficult. Although people claimed to see him later in different places across the country (Arizona, Nebraska, Michigan), none of these sightings were ever proven true.
Halpern was a smart guy – a University of Chicago graduate student who also worked at a Wisconsin observatory. He was good at math, science, and chess.
The police stopped looking for him a long time ago, but they’ve collected DNA from his family. If his body is ever found, they can use the DNA to confirm his identity.
