- Details of Disappearance:
- On May 4, 2017, Ashley Nystrom was last seen at her parents’ house in Maize, Kansas. A friend with her accidentally triggered the alarm, and when police arrived, the friend was arrested for having drugs. Nystrom left the house through the back door and vanished.
She left behind her car, wallet, phone, and her dog, Frankie (a black and gray Chihuahua mix – see photo). Although she struggled with drug addiction, she always contacted her family, so this disappearance is unusual.
Because Cowskin Creek near her parents’ house was flooded that day, and two items with her DNA were later found caught in branches at the flood’s high-water mark, investigators believe she may have accidentally drowned. There were unconfirmed reports of sightings afterward, but police think she didn’t disappear willingly and is likely dead. The case is still open.
