Details of Disappearance:
On November 16, 1971, lawyer Robert Plaisted went to Milwaukee from his Wisconsin home for a business meeting, to see his daughter (a Marquette University student), and then to go car shopping with his family. He went to his meeting, but disappeared after leaving to meet his daughter.

His daughter found his unlocked car near her apartment; the windows were down, the keys were gone, and the glove compartment had been searched, but gifts he’d bought were still in the back. His hat was in the gutter. He was never seen again.

After he vanished, police found he’d misused $65,000 from a trust fund he managed. Though initially suspected of running away with the money, it turned out he’d spent it all *before* disappearing. His family believes he was murdered, not a runaway. His son suspects a former business partner who had a fight with Plaisted and who may have been in Milwaukee that day, but there’s no proof of involvement.

Plaisted, a Navy veteran with six children, was declared legally dead in 1979. The case remains unsolved, and New Holstein police are still investigating.
