- Gary Crowe vanished from Santa Cruz, California on September 10, 1998. He worked from home as a computer consultant and lived alone. He made a business call that morning about a website project but never returned the call as planned. A week later, his family reported him missing.
His apartment showed signs he hadn’t planned to leave – fresh food in the fridge, a book left unfinished. He also didn’t arrange for anyone to take care of his mail or plants, which was unusual for him.
His car, a 1993 Nissan Altima (license plate 3EER261), was found abandoned and locked in a remote area of Big Basin Redwoods State Park. It was dirty but showed no signs of violence.
Police initially thought he might have died by suicide or gotten lost while hiking, but now they suspect foul play. The case remains a mystery.
