On May 24, 1980, a small aluminum boat carrying six people capsized on Idaho’s Palisades Reservoir. The boat flipped over about 100 yards from the shore, near Big Elk Creek. The water was very cold (51 degrees) and deep (120 feet), and the weather was stormy.

Four people were saved, but four others – Larry Hill, his son Rex, Laddie Schiess, and Laddie’s daughter Toni – disappeared. Despite a big search, they were never found. It’s believed they drowned.
