- Details of Disappearance:
- On November 21, 2011, a young woman named Smith disappeared. Her cousin said she dropped Smith off at a house on Oak Ridge Lane in Leon, Virginia, at 2:15 p.m. for a house cleaning job. But when the homeowner returned, the house was unlocked, the dogs were out, and the cleaning hadn’t been done. Worse, a gun was missing from the house.
The last known sighting of Smith was around 3:00 p.m. at a nearby 7-Eleven. Police aren’t sure if Smith’s cousin actually dropped her off at the house, and the cousin has since moved away.
The homeowner, Kenneth Kuban, was later convicted of stalking his ex-girlfriend, but this case is unrelated to Smith’s disappearance. He’s not considered a suspect.
Smith had a significant amount of cash ($2,000-$5,000) on her, planned to buy a car, and may have had unclaimed license plates (XBW2666) with her. She left behind her passport, credit cards, and driver’s license, but took her phone (without a charger).
Smith was a college student, avid gamer, and usually kept in touch with her family and friends. This sudden silence is unusual. Although she sometimes took unplanned trips, she always told someone. The fact that a suitcase was missing from her home and that she’d asked friends about disappearing suggests she *might* have left willingly. However, the complete lack of contact makes foul play a strong possibility as well.
The case remains unsolved.
