Details of Disappearance:
Lee Wackerhagen and his young son, Chance, vanished from Lockhart, Texas on December 26, 1993. Chance had been spending Christmas with his dad, Lee, after visiting his mother, Gaye. He called his mom on Christmas Day, happy and excited about his gifts, and got permission to stay a bit longer. That was the last time she heard from him.

The next day, Lee and Chance were seen having dinner, seemingly fine. Then, on December 27th, Lee’s girlfriend, Latricia White, was found murdered in their apartment. She’d been shot multiple times in the head while asleep. Strangely, nothing was stolen. But Chance’s footprint was found in the blood, suggesting he was there.

Lee’s truck was later found abandoned, containing his hunting rifle (unfired), his wallet, and bloodstained Christmas presents – the blood wasn’t Latricia’s. Four months later, someone called Chance’s grandfather, whispering “help me” before hanging up.

Police initially suspected Lee killed Latricia and ran off with Chance, as Lee had a history of anger and violence. But Gaye and Lee’s friends didn’t believe he would hurt Chance.

The case was reopened in 2016, and investigators now think both Lee and Chance were victims of a crime. They believe Latricia’s murder was likely a crime of passion, committed by someone close to her or Lee. Lee is now considered a missing person, possibly a victim of homicide, not a suspect. The mystery of what happened to Lee, Chance, and Latricia remains unsolved.
