- Details of Disappearance:
- Leyla disappeared on August 14, 2012, from her home in Leesburg, Virginia. Her estranged husband, Matthew, was the last person to see her. Leyla was a belly dancer with a young child. Her phone last showed activity south of her home that day, and her bank cards haven’t been used since. She wasn’t reported missing until August 30th.
Four months before her disappearance, Leyla and Matthew had a fight, and she was charged with assaulting him. She pleaded guilty but then disappeared before completing her court-ordered counseling.
After Leyla vanished, police searched Matthew’s apartment and found many guns and ammunition. Later, Matthew was arrested for illegally possessing a machine gun that he’d hidden from police.
Police suspect foul play. Leyla had bruises before she disappeared and had told people Matthew had hurt her and threatened to send her back to Russia.
The case remains unsolved.
