- Details of Disappearance:
- On September 9, 2013, Ruden went for a late-night boat ride (11:30 PM) off Oceanside, California, on his boat, “The Lucky Dog,” with his dog, Sadie. He never came back.
His dog Sadie was found swimming in the water near a jetty around 5:00 PM the next day. Sadie’s collar had contact information, which led rescuers to Ruden’s wife.
Ruden’s boat was discovered the next morning (6:30 AM) about ten miles from shore, still running in circles. A life jacket was missing from the boat, suggesting Ruden might have been wearing it when he disappeared. There were no signs of trouble or anything suspicious.
A big search covered a huge area (600 square miles) for 48 hours, but Ruden was never found. It’s believed he was lost at sea.
