Details of Disappearance:

Lourdes, a Cuban immigrant, had a successful early modeling career in Europe after graduating from college in Florida. However, the modeling world changed, and she struggled to find work in the late 1980s. She returned to the US and had a complicated personal life, including a short-lived intense relationship and financial struggles. She became involved in Santeria, a religion, and seemed to become increasingly paranoid, especially after her modeling career ended. She held various jobs in New York City, but nothing lasting, and her life became unstable.

In 2000, Lourdes lived in New York with her brother, Mario, who had his own troubles. She disappeared suddenly, leaving behind most of her belongings but not her underwear. Mario told police she went to Europe, but this was suspicious because her passport was expired and she never told her mother she was leaving. He also disposed of her couch, which raised further questions. Although Mario was initially considered a suspect, he was later cleared.
