Details of Disappearance:
In Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1965, a newly engaged couple, Pacheco and Albert De Mattos, mysteriously vanished. They’d only known each other for three weeks.

On December 9th, after visiting De Mattos’s son, they left for a quick trip to the laundromat around 8 or 9 a.m. De Mattos had a lot of cash on him – around $700-$800. Pacheco later called her daughter around 2 p.m., saying they’d be back soon. They never were.

A pot of stew was left cooking in Pacheco’s apartment. Police initially thought they’d eloped, but weeks turned into months with no sign of the couple or De Mattos’s gray-blue 1957 Pontiac (license plate 5A-31514, serial number P 857H33127). A possible sighting at a Sears store a month later is unconfirmed. Their prescriptions weren’t filled, and their bank accounts remained untouched. De Mattos was expecting a significant sum of money.

Pacheco, a responsible woman who always kept in touch with her teenage daughter, left behind her purse and wedding ring. De Mattos left eight adult children, Pacheco four (one a teenager). Pacheco had even delayed her wedding to include her daughter in the honeymoon.

The case is now cold, but the families haven’t given up hope. It remains a mystery whether they left willingly or something else happened.
