- Details of Disappearance:
- David Chabarria vanished in Arlington, Texas on April 1, 1997. He left work at Harrigan’s Restaurant around 6 pm, driving his red-striped, partly painted 1987 Honda Civic. He was never seen or heard from again.
His roommate said Chabarria had been drinking a lot and sleeping excessively before he disappeared. Chabarria’s mother noticed he seemed unwell and asked about drug use, which he denied. Importantly, he left all his belongings at home.
Over a month later, on May 17th, his abandoned car was found in a remote, brushy area in Culberson County, Texas. The keys were in the ignition, windows down. Inside and around the car were empty bottles, cigarettes, an empty picture frame, and shotgun shells; a shotgun box was in the backseat. A shotgun matching the box was bought at a Wal-Mart a few days after Chabarria disappeared, but the buyer wasn’t identified. His family thinks he bought it for hunting, not suicide.
His parents, who lived in Fort Worth, said he’d never disappeared like this before. His mother speculated he might have gone to Culberson County to look for his grandparents’ old house, but that’s just a theory.
The case remains unsolved, and police suspect foul play.
