- Details of Disappearance:
- Margaret disappeared on June 24, 1974, in New Jersey. She was going to a job interview in Mount Holly with a man who called himself “John Marshall.” Her sister saw her get on the bus. People saw her in Mount Holly after she got off the bus, but that’s the last anyone saw of her.
Margaret had advertised for a babysitting job, and “Marshall” contacted her. He kept delaying their meeting, finally saying he’d pick her up in a red Volkswagen. His phone number led police to a supermarket phone booth.
After Margaret went missing, someone called her family demanding $10,000 for her safe return. The caller was never caught. You can hear the call on the FBI website.
Neither Margaret nor “John Marshall” were ever found. Other parents reported similar attempts to lure their daughters with fake job offers. A confession in 1976 turned out to be false.
Margaret loved horses and played the piano. She’d just graduated from school two weeks before disappearing. Her parents have passed away, but her siblings are still alive. The mystery of what happened to Margaret remains unsolved.
