- In April 1976 (some records say 1986), a woman named Phillips vanished in Fort Myers, Florida. She went to the bank with her boyfriend, Willie Lee Battles, to get money for a car. Battles claimed he fell asleep in the car and woke up to find her gone. No one at the bank saw her, and no money was withdrawn.
Because Phillips left behind four children and was a hard-working woman who would never leave them without a word, police suspect foul play. Battles was questioned many times, but while witnesses saw him and Phillips driving away from the bank, there wasn’t enough evidence to arrest him. The case remains a mystery.
