Details of Disappearance:
Fye disappeared from her Washington, D.C. home in late November 2003. Her fiancé, Harold Devine Austin, said she left after an argument, but he waited until December 5th to report her missing – by then, he was dating someone else. Fye’s belongings—clothes, purse, ID—were all left behind, and she had five children.

Two and a half years later, Austin was charged with her murder. Witnesses (including three of Fye’s children) testified they heard a fight, Fye scream “No, Devine, no!”, and a gunshot. Police found blood on a mattress; while tests weren’t definitive, the blood could have been Fye’s.

Austin was convicted of murder in 2006 and sentenced to 42 years in prison, where he later died. Fye’s body has never been found, but her family believes she was murdered because she was a loving mother who would never leave her children.
