- Details of Disappearance:
- Gonangnan disappeared in Fairbanks, Alaska on March 30, 2003. She left her home at 9 pm, telling her daughter she was going to the hospital for a medical check-up. She called her daughter at 10:30 pm to say she was at the hospital, but hospital records show no such call was made. This was unusual behavior for Gonangnan.
Because she had disappeared for short periods before, her family wasn’t immediately worried. There were some unconfirmed reports of her being seen nearby after she disappeared. However, by May 7th, she was officially reported missing, and her children were placed in the care of Child Protective Services in April.
Gonangnan had a troubled past. She struggled with drug use and prostitution, and had a violent relationship. She also had a history of leaving her family (she had five children, three of whom lived with her). Her boyfriend, who was in jail the day she vanished, is not considered a suspect.
Police initially thought she left on her own, but now suspect foul play because she’s been missing for so long. She hasn’t been seen or heard from, hasn’t been arrested, and hasn’t claimed money she was entitled to.
Interestingly, one of her friends, Mahogany Davis, was murdered a year earlier, in May 2002. That case remains unsolved, and there’s no clear connection to Gonangnan’s disappearance, which also remains a mystery.
