- Details of Disappearance:
- Jeffrey Thompson vanished after leaving a bar (Pro Shop Pub) in Clearwater, Florida, around midnight on November 1, 2001. His mom reported him missing the next day when he didn’t go to work. His truck was found abandoned in Tampa a few days later, with no signs of violence.
Police investigated whether a serial killer was responsible for Thompson’s disappearance, along with several other missing or murdered gay men in the area. These cases span several years, with some men disappearing from the same apartment building in Fort Lauderdale.
Two men, Steven Lorenzo and Scott Schweikert, were convicted of drugging and killing two of these other men (Galehouse and Wachholtz) using GHB, a drug that makes people very drowsy and vulnerable. Schweikert confessed to these murders and implicated Lorenzo, but Lorenzo hasn’t been charged in those deaths.
While investigators considered a link between these cases and Thompson’s disappearance, there’s no concrete evidence connecting him to Lorenzo and Schweikert beyond the fact that they were all gay men. Thompson’s disappearance remains unsolved.
