- Details of Disappearance:
- In October 1965, Mary Little, a secretary at a bank in Atlanta, disappeared. She’d recently married and was happily planning a party for her husband’s return. After dinner with a coworker, she vanished.
Her car, a pearl-gray Mercury Comet, was found nearby with some unusual details: a small amount of blood (possibly hers), her underwear (some blood-stained), and her outer clothes, purse, and keys were missing. The car’s license plate was stolen, and there was red dust on it, suggesting it had been driven on a dirt road.
Mary’s credit card was used twice in North Carolina the next day, with witnesses reporting a woman matching her description – injured and seemingly under duress – traveling with some men. A ransom note was sent, but it was a hoax.
Police investigated her husband, Roy, but he had an alibi and no clear motive. There was a sex scandal at the bank, and Mary had received mysterious calls and flowers before her disappearance, but these haven’t been linked to her vanishing. She’d also expressed fears about being alone.
Eighteen months later, a coworker was murdered, leading to brief speculation of a connection, but that theory was dropped. The police file on Mary’s case even disappeared!
To this day, it remains a mystery whether Mary staged her own disappearance or was abducted. Her mother is still searching for answers.
