- Marine Lieutenant Kraft went on a long skiing and hiking trip in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California in February 2019. He planned a 195-mile journey that should have taken ten days, but he disappeared. His rented Jeep was found a week later, but he was never found despite a big search. The Marines believe he died in a bad winter storm and promoted him to Captain after his death. He was an experienced hiker who had done many challenging trips before, and was about to go to Afghanistan when he vanished. While it’s believed he had an accident in the mountains, his body has never been found.
