Details of Disappearance:
On November 15, 2007, a young man named Whitmer was last seen playing video games at home around 1:30 AM. Police think he later jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge. His car was found parked nearby, with his wallet and ID inside, and wet clothes in the trunk. Witnesses saw someone matching his description jump into the water at 6:25 AM. He’d looked up directions to the bridge and searched online for information about bridge barriers before he left. His last message, sent at 6:23 AM, simply said “Peace out.” The Coast Guard searched, but his body was never found.

Whitmer had a history of mental illness. He’d attempted suicide at age 12 and spent time in the hospital. He attended special education and schools for children with emotional problems, and although he had some struggles, he also participated in sports and even went on a trip to Europe. He graduated high school early but chose to continue taking college classes. At the time of his disappearance, he’d stopped taking his medication and was studying to be a massage therapist. He openly talked to his family about his mental health and had mentioned suicide before. Because of what happened, his mother now works to get barriers put up on the Golden Gate Bridge to prevent others from jumping.
