- Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian male. Brown hair, brown eyes. Matthew had pectus excavatum (a concave chest) at the time of his disappearance.
- Details of Disappearance:
- In 1983, in Arkansas, a woman named Kathy Johnson (who may also be called Judy) met Matthew’s mom at a rodeo. Matthew’s mom needed help with childcare, so Kathy stayed at their home to watch the kids for a week. After a party one night, Kathy and baby Matthew disappeared, taking the family car. The car was found abandoned in Oklahoma the next day, but Matthew and Kathy were gone.
Kathy was described as a 26-year-old Caucasian woman, around 5’4″ tall with blonde hair. She had noticeable features: a chipped tooth, scars on her shoulder and knee, and tattoos (a star/sunburst, a unicorn, and the name “Kathy” with a ribbon).
Police think Kathy may have taken Matthew to California, possibly through Utah, to raise him as her own child. They believe Matthew is likely still alive but doesn’t know he was abducted.
