Details of Disappearance:
Maxine disappeared from Pawhuska, Oklahoma on October 30, 1961. Police searched, but couldn’t find her. Because she’d recently cashed a welfare check, many thought she’d left town.

However, Maxine’s ex-husband, Hobart, was due in court a week later for not paying child support. He never showed up. Years later, in 1986, Hobart was convicted of murdering his baby son.

Maxine and Hobart’s daughter, Norma, claimed that she’d witnessed her mother’s murder in 1961, but only remembered it after her father’s conviction. Norma said Hobart forced her, her sister, and Maxine into a car. He took Maxine to Bird Creek, where he beat and choked her to death. He then threatened Norma and her sister.

Norma told the police in 1986, but they were skeptical due to the time that had passed and Hobart’s existing life sentence. In 1991, a private investigator searched the area Norma described but only found animal bones, not Maxine’s remains.

Interestingly, around the time of the 1991 search, a witness claimed to have seen Hobart with a missing teenager, Cynthia Kinney, just before she disappeared in 1976. However, police haven’t confirmed this connection.

To this day, Maxine’s disappearance remains a mystery.
