Her family reported her missing on September 7th – they didn’t even know she’d gone on a cruise! Police found out about the trip through her credit card records. Carver left all her belongings in her cabin, except for her purse, which the cruise line put into storage. They also gave away most of her other possessions to charity. This led to an employee being fired for not following company procedures about reporting missing passengers.

Investigations showed Carver never used her shipboard credit card or bought anything on board. There’s no record of her leaving the ship at any port except possibly Vancouver (where records aren’t kept for disembarking passengers).

Celebrity Cruises believes Carver committed suicide by jumping overboard, noting her cabin’s proximity to an open deck and a past suicide threat following a divorce. However, her family disputes this, describing her as a vibrant, independent poet. She was an ex-investment banker living off investments and a trust fund at the time. She has one child.

The case remains unsolved, with investigations ongoing in Massachusetts and Alaska, and a lawsuit against the cruise line still pending.
