- Details of Disappearance:
- On February 13, 1993, 10th grader Michael disappeared. He was last seen in Northridge, California, heading to South Los Angeles with a friend, Evans York, to buy a gun and get money for drugs. Michael never returned. He left everything behind – his games, his favorite coat – and didn’t respond to his family’s calls, which was very unusual.
Two days later, his red Isuzu Rodeo was found abandoned. York told police they’d been kidnapped, but York was the only one who escaped. Months later, Michael’s driver’s license showed up in the mail, mysteriously.
York was arrested for a weapons charge and later charged with Michael’s murder. Police believed York killed Michael and stole his car. York said Michael ran away, but a jury couldn’t prove he’d committed murder, even though they suspected him.
Michael’s body was never found, but because of all the strange events, police think he was likely murdered.
