- Chien disappeared on December 18, 1996, from his mom’s house in Upland, California. He was going Christmas shopping with family but never showed up. His car, a white 1996 Nissan Maxima (Wisconsin plates: RED639), was found abandoned a week later, but there were no clues about what happened to him.
People think they saw him later in San Gabriel and Bakersfield, California. A police officer in Bakersfield even talked to a man who looked like Chien in February 1997. This man wanted help with a drug problem, but it’s not certain if it was actually Chien.
Chien knew people in Upland and San Francisco, California, and also in Wisconsin. No one knows for sure what happened to him.
