- Details of Disappearance:
- Two men, Desmet and 52-year-old Joseph Wilma, vanished on August 26, 2005, after driving to Wilma’s property in Covelo, California. They were last seen in Wilma’s maroon 1998 Toyota pickup truck (license plate 7067771). Their disappearance came right after police destroyed a huge illegal marijuana grow on Wilma’s land.
Two years later, a hiker found a jawbone near Wilma’s property. Police searches uncovered Wilma’s truck, a leg bone (both later identified as Wilma’s), and another large marijuana field. Wilma’s body was partially found, but Desmet’s body was never discovered.
Police think both men were murdered, but no one has been arrested.
