- Details of Disappearance:
- Mindy and her six-month-old daughter, Jersey, disappeared in August 2002. The state had taken Jersey away from Mindy earlier because Mindy had mental health problems, drug issues, and neglected Jersey. Mindy was trying to get better; she was taking medicine, going to parenting classes, and seeing Jersey regularly.
One evening, Mindy’s sister left Mindy and Jersey alone while they went to dinner. When they returned, both were gone. Mindy’s car was later found abandoned on the Mackinac Bridge, halfway across. Her purse, keys, baby’s things, and even the car seat were all still inside. A witness saw a woman who looked like Mindy near the car.
Police think Mindy jumped off the bridge with Jersey. Mindy had previously tried to kill herself and had talked about harming herself and her daughter. Despite a big search, neither Mindy nor Jersey have ever been found.
