- During the 1991-92 holidays, Monte and his 21-year-old brother Bryan visited their parents in California. They went out on a family sailboat trip to Anacapa Island, one of the Channel Islands. Bryan and Monte then took a small, eight-foot boat to explore sea caves. They were last seen heading west near the north side of the island, but never returned.
Their little boat was found empty but full of water near a cave. A search team found Bryan’s body in a sea cave about a day later. They thought they saw another body, but couldn’t be certain because of bad weather. Monte is believed to have drowned, but his body was never found.
