- Details of Disappearance:
- Renkas disappeared on July 18, 2016, after leaving home in Florence, Wisconsin to get the mail and groceries. She was supposed to be back in the afternoon but never returned.
Her sons reported her missing after she didn’t answer their calls and texts. Investigators found out she visited a relative in Iron Mountain, Michigan, left around 1:30 p.m., and planned to look at a camper in Menominee, Michigan. The last time anyone saw her, she was getting into a white SUV in the Super One Foods parking lot in Iron Mountain. The SUV drove away east on US Highway 2.
Her own car was found abandoned in that same parking lot the next day, with groceries still inside.
In 2020, police named Renkas’s sister-in-law, Louise Wender, a suspect. Wender worked at the Super One Foods store and owned the white SUV. Police believe the two women had a difficult relationship, and Wender stopped cooperating with the investigation, giving false information. Wender says she’s innocent.
Both Michigan and Wisconsin police are investigating, and they think Renkas’s disappearance was not an accident.
