- Details of Disappearance:
- On July 4th, 1975, 26-year-old Colleen Baird vanished from the Fina gas station where she worked in East Layton, Utah. A police officer saw her working just minutes before she disappeared. Nothing was stolen, there were no signs of a fight, but about $10 in gas was unpaid. Her car, keys, and purse (containing money and medication) were left behind. Because she lived nearby and had no reason to leave suddenly, police believe she was abducted.
Witnesses mentioned a truck near the station before her disappearance, but it was never identified. Her ex-husband and two friends were investigated but cleared.
Police suspect serial killer Ted Bundy, but he denied involvement before his execution in 1989. Baird’s disappearance is unusual compared to Bundy’s other known crimes; he didn’t typically use a truck and never targeted victims at gas stations.
Despite the suspicion, the case remains unsolved.
