- Details of Disappearance:
- In October 1993, a Louisiana woman named Hardwick disappeared from her home in Lake Charles. She left a note saying she was going to the store, but never returned. This was especially strange because she had four children, and her family said she was a loving mother who wouldn’t leave them.
Police suspected foul play and thought she might be a woman killed in a car accident in Mississippi in 1998. Hardwick’s family identified the body from photos, and a coroner thought it was very likely her. The idea was that she’d been kidnapped, held captive for years, and then escaped only to be killed.
To confirm, they dug up the body to get DNA, but it turned out to be a man. They couldn’t find the actual remains of the woman thought to be Hardwick, so the investigation was stopped, and the Mississippi victim remains unidentified. The mystery of what happened to Hardwick is still unsolved.
