Details of Disappearance:
In March 1982, Nicole’s mother, Melody, claimed her daughter was kidnapped from a Pittsburgh grocery store. Police were suspicious because no one else saw Nicole there. A few days later, a letter claiming Nicole was dead and buried was found – likely written by Melody herself.

Four years later, Melody’s boyfriend, Timothy Widman, confessed to accidentally killing Nicole. He said he slapped her after she bit him, causing her to hit her head. Widman and Melody then buried her body and faked a kidnapping. Widman and Melody were both abusive towards Nicole.

Initially, charges against Widman were dropped because Nicole’s body wasn’t found. Melody was charged with lying to the police, but those charges were also dropped. Years later, Widman was charged again. Even without the body, he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and served some prison time. He apologized before his death in 2011. Melody died in 2001. Nicole’s body was never found.
