Clothing/Jewelry Description A gold mother’s ring with a peridot stone, a pink stone, a blue stone and a purple stone on her her right ring finger, and possibly a Celtic-style silver necklace and a silver neckleace wth one blue and two pink stones in a small pendant. Clothing unknown, but she usually wears cotton shirts, jeans or capri pants, and white sneakers or white sandals.

Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian female. Brown hair, brown/hazel eyes. Mayo is a British national and speaks with an English accent. She wears prescription eyeglasses with oval-shaped lenses and gold wire frames. Her ears are pierced. Mayo had highlights in her hair at the time of her August 2005 disappearance.

Details of Disappearance:

Mayo disappeared on August 8, 2005, after leaving her Hawthorne, Nevada home around 11:00 a.m. for a shopping trip over the Sierra Nevada mountains. She planned to return the same day, but never showed up for work.

Two days later, her silver station wagon (either a Mercury Sable or Ford Taurus) was found at a scenic overlook called Donnell’s Vista along her planned route. Her phone, wallet, and purse were in the car, but her camera was missing. The car had been there since the day she disappeared. The overlook is very high above a deep canyon.

Police are interested in talking to Jewel Jeanne Rice, whose car broke down near Sonora on the day Mayo disappeared. Rice left the area on August 12th without her car, and her current location is unknown. Rice isn’t a suspect, but police think she might know something helpful.

Mayo was a healthy nurse, and her disappearance is out of character. The case remains unsolved.
