- Robert Weeks was a violent and controlling man with a string of suspicious disappearances linked to him. His first wife, Patricia, vanished in Las Vegas in 1968, shortly after their divorce. Her abandoned car was found, and Robert claimed she had a breakdown or was dead.
Over the next two decades, three more people connected to Robert disappeared:
* **James Shaw:** A business associate who argued with Robert before vanishing in 1971. His bloodstained car was later discovered.
* **Cynthia Jabour:** Robert’s girlfriend of six years, who disappeared in 1980 on the night of a planned breakup dinner. Her car was found abandoned at Caesar’s Palace. Robert lied to police and fled to Mexico and Chile.
* **Carol Riley:** Robert (using the alias Robert Howard Smith) was dating Carol when she disappeared in San Diego in 1986, also on the night of a planned breakup. He left town shortly after.Robert was eventually caught in 1987 after being featured on “Unsolved Mysteries.” He was arrested and charged with Patricia and Cynthia’s murders.
His trial revealed a history of abuse and violence. Witnesses testified to Robert’s controlling behavior, his physical attacks on Patricia, and a brutal assault on a neighbor who was seen with Patricia. Entries from Robert’s diary showed his anger towards Cynthia.
Despite no bodies being found, Robert was convicted of Patricia and Cynthia’s murders in 1988 and sentenced to life in prison without parole – a first in Nevada history. He died in prison in 1996, and the disappearances of James Shaw and Carol Riley remain unsolved. Police suspect he may have disposed of the bodies in Nevada mine shafts.
