Details of Disappearance:
On March 15, 1985, Linda Volansky was last seen around 5 p.m. in Mims, Florida. After her roommate refused to drive her to the grocery store, she started hitchhiking. She vanished without a trace.

A week later, her disability check arrived at her mother’s house. Volansky always collected these checks herself, so her mother got worried and reported her missing on March 25th. Volansky’s mother said her daughter lived a somewhat unconventional life, but they were very close. The mother didn’t believe Volansky would disappear without saying goodbye.

A man named John Brennan Crutchley, known as the “Vampire Rapist,” became a suspect. Crutchley was convicted in 1986 of kidnapping and brutally assaulting a woman in Orlando – he even drank some of her blood. Volansky’s ID was found in Crutchley’s workplace. He claimed he’d picked her up hitchhiking months before his arrest, but got angry with her and kicked her out of his car. He later disposed of her wallet but kept her ID. Crutchley died by suicide in prison in 2002. Police think he may have been a serial killer, and he was also a suspect in another missing person’s case, but there wasn’t enough evidence to link him to either crime.

Volansky’s disappearance is still a mystery, and police believe foul play was involved.
