- Details of Disappearance:
- On April 3, 1976, Peggy and Bernard Rusness vanished from their Minnesota farm. After a trip to the grocery store, Bernard was seen working on his driveway around 4:00 PM. Later that night, their house caught fire and burned completely. Their 8-year-old son, Brian, and their two dogs died in the fire, but Peggy and Bernard were gone. Investigators believe they escaped the fire.
Strangely, their cars were left outside with the keys in the ignition, and they left behind money in the bank and unclaimed paychecks. They weren’t officially married, a fact they kept secret. Bernard had another wife, and Peggy had a former husband, both living in North Dakota. They lived in a small town but kept to themselves. Peggy was described as a very protective mother.
The case remains unsolved, and police suspect foul play was involved in Peggy and Bernard’s disappearance.
