While they seemed happy with three kids, Eric had a drinking problem, was unfaithful, and they’d faced domestic disputes. They’d made a fortune from their business, but were fired and facing financial trouble and a Medicare fraud investigation. Shortly before the boat trip, Eric took out a large life insurance policy on Pegye.

Suspicions of murder were high from the start. Two years later, Eric confessed to killing Pegye with dumbbells and dumping her body in the ocean while high on drugs and alcohol to his new girlfriend, who was secretly recording him. The dumbbells were missing from their home. His best friend even testified Eric planned to kill Pegye for the insurance money.
