Details of Disappearance:
On April 2nd, 2009, a man named O’Brien vanished from Boise, Idaho. He dropped off his two young sons at his ex-wife’s house and was supposed to pick them up two days later, but he never showed up. He disappeared without a trace, leaving behind almost all of his belongings – his phone, wallet, car, and keys were all left behind. The only things missing were his laptop and passport. His apartment was unlocked, and his April rent was paid.

This was very unusual for him; he was a loving father and wasn’t known to disappear without telling anyone. Police investigated several possibilities: he might have gotten lost or injured while hiking (he loved hiking in Camel’s Back Park), or he might have taken his own life, but there was no evidence to support either theory. His ex-wife said their relationship was difficult but that he didn’t seem depressed. While his passport was left behind, police think he might have traveled somewhere else in the US. He was facing personal and financial troubles at the time.

O’Brien was a film audio editor. He was originally from New Zealand, lived in New York as a child, then Australia (where he went to film school), before moving to the US in 2000. He moved to Boise from Los Angeles just seven weeks before he disappeared to be closer to his kids. He was known as a devoted dad, a talented saxophone player, and a good cook.

Despite the investigation, his disappearance remains a mystery.
