- Details of Disappearance:
- Thetsombandith, who had moved from Laos to live with family in San Diego, disappeared on August 18, 1991. He was kidnapped at gunpoint by several men who forced him into a car. This happened around 7:30 a.m. on Brooklyn Avenue. One of his shoes was left behind.
A man named Percyval Leslie Dryden was later found guilty of Thetsombandith’s murder. Police think Dryden grabbed the wrong person—he’d mistaken Thetsombandith for someone who had broken into his car the previous night. Dryden claimed he only talked to Thetsombandith and let him go, but Thetsombandith was never seen again.
Dryden went to prison for 19 years to life, but he never said where Thetsombandith’s body is. Because of how he disappeared, everyone believes he was murdered.
