Details of Disappearance:
Spring went missing on October 10, 1988. A family member dropped him off near Tipton and White Water Roads in Whitewater, California, around 6:30 a.m. He was going hiking and camping for a few days and planned to hitchhike or call for a ride home. Someone may have seen him near the San Jacinto Mountains between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. that day, but that’s the last possible sighting. A big search didn’t find him. Importantly, Spring was a trained survival expert from his time in the Army, worked for the California Department of Forestry, and volunteered as a firefighter. He wanted to be a firefighter and had finished his training. His disappearance is still a mystery.
