Details of Disappearance:
On August 14, 1981, a woman named McCorkle vanished from her home in East Moline, Illinois. When her mother returned from work that afternoon, she found both doors locked from the inside and had to break in. McCorkle was gone, but her two-year-old son was locked in a bedroom. The only thing missing besides McCorkle was a nightgown. Her car, purse, clothes, and other belongings were all still there. Her bed was unmade, and her slippers were left by the bed—unusual for her.

The only way she could have left was through a basement window, as the screen was on the floor. There were no signs of a struggle.

That morning, McCorkle had talked to her boyfriend, saying she’d pick him up to help him apply for a job, but she never did. She also didn’t go to work and didn’t call in sick. Her boyfriend passed a lie detector test, but her ex-husband refused to take one, claiming he visited her house at 10 a.m. and got no answer.

Police and family believe she wouldn’t have left her young son. McCorkle was a good worker and a graduate of United Township High School. The case remains unsolved, and police suspect foul play.
